Guitar Lesson II...

Finding The Strings - Pick Hand II

Once again, this is an exercise that concentrates on the pick hand. This is excellent for getting used to skipping over one string to get to the next. In no time you'll be able to do this in your sleep. Again, Repetition is very important here. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  • Maintain an even tempo throughout. You may find this a bit more difficult than the first excercise but be patient and work at it methodically. Play the notes evenly and at a pace that allows you to play them correctly. We've purposely made our sound clips slow so you don't start trying to be Eddie Van Halen on the first day. Even Eddie had to practice these techniques when he started.

  • Play the notes with down and up strokes starting with a down stroke.
  • Once again build speed for this excercise by playing along with the radio once you have memorized the pattern. Keep at this excercise for a week or so as well or until you can play it flawlessly from beginning to end. Gradually increase the tempo and even once you move on to Lesson III, use this exercise as a warm-up. Always run through previous exercises before starting a lesson. Its good warm up and helps refresh your memory and what your goals are.

To listen to our sound samples or to view the video clips, you will need either the default Windows Media Player which can be downloaded Here or you can download Real Player Here.
